Realizing my dreams in San Diego

My time in San Diego is coming to an end this morning, we will be making the drive up I-5 to Anaheim today to do Disneyland and other things.  I will have the joy of spending parts of the day with my good friend Erick Simpson, some of you may know Erick and then some of you may not.  Erick is part of MSPU, an organization that works with Managed Services Providers in the technology community.  Erick has a great business going in a market that is ripe for the picking.  IT Professionals across the globe has a thirst for knowledge these days and want to learn more about delivering IT services.  Erick’s firm can help for sure.  Visit mspu.us for more information.

I had a tough day yesterday and feel a little empty inside.  I did manage to spend a day with my family around the San Diego Zoo (which is awesome).  I am feeling a little because of the changes occurring in my life right now.  I did manage to spend some time with my wife without the kids yesterday as we sat around the pool at our Marriott hotel (did I mention that I love Marriott’s, email me about the Microsoft Global Partner rate and how you can save at Marriott), during our conversation time we discussed the future and what it holds for us.  It is pretty clear that a change has to occur, however we are a little nervous about the next step in life.

After our conversation time, we decided to keep the trend going and dumped the kids at the hotel, they had homework to do anyways and drive up I-15 to Mira Mesa for some shopping.  Yes, even with the dollar at $1.25 there are still some great deals in the US to be had.

So what is it about the future?  Is it about change?  I was speaking to another friend on the phone yesterday and she is also making a major change in her life at the end of the month.  Is it time for changes in our industry?  Did I spark something in people?  Change has to occur, if you think that life will remain the same or that your business can just stay constant, well who are you kidding.  Change occurs in life if you like it or not.  I am nervous about the upcoming changes in my life and excited at the same time because I know there are some great things still out there that I need to be a part of.  So why not grab life by the horns and make stuff happen.

The nice thing to note that you don’t have to go through it alone.  A number of people have made major changes in their life.  During my last HTG meeting last week Arlin shared with us a book called “Dream Giver“.  In this book, Bruce Wilkinson shares with us some important players that will surface when you announce that you are going for your dream, these include:

  • Border Bullies - These are the people that will tell you that you are crazy for leaving.  I have had a few people tell me that I am crazy for leaving IT Matters and why would I give up a good thing.
  • Border Busters - These are the people that will do whatever it takes to see you succeed, these are the people that you want in your corner, the people backing you.
  • There will be people as well that will wish you luck and request that you call them when you need help, just focus on finding those Border Busters.

This was a long post for today, ask yourself this one question, are you really happy doing what you are doing, being where you are at in your life and are you happy in general?  If you answered no, then why are you doing what you are doing?  Can you change something?

I am here to help you at all times if you need a Border Buster!
