Steve’s comments on his blog re: Lenovo
I had a chance to chat on the phone with my good friend Steve Riat from Hays, KS yesterday. Readers of my blog will know that I have a tremendous amount of respect for Steve. He is an awesome guy and someone who gets how to serve clients.
In Steve’s blog yesterday he shared his feedback from the Lenovo conference in San Francisco. IT Matters is a Lenovo partner thanks to Steve. We don’t nearly do the volume that Steve does. However, he nailed it when he said that Lenovo will focus on quality while the others will focus on PC’s and Notebook’s being a commodity.

Steve also made a comment about just doing the basics. Now I don’t know a lot about baseball, football or basketball, but I do know lots about hockey, so I will relate to hockey. In hockey, the team that wins the most cups, the most games, the most battles for the pucks do the basics extremely well. The practice the basics over and over. Wayne Gretzky was like this, he practiced the basics over and over.
Are you practicing the basics in your business? What could happen if you just did the basics fantastic? This is something that I am going back to. The Basics! I have recently started doing proposals again, doing quotes for clients and getting directly involved in my business. Why? It is the basics of success, I understand that I was trying to do many complicated things and it was hurting me as a person.
Are you committed to getting back to the basics?

On a different note, here are some pictures from the foot of snow that fell in Calgary today during the morning drive. Needless to say that I just decided to stay in the home office for the morning until this foot of snow stopped. April is a funny month in Calgary weather-wise. It will be 20C this weekend, so from one extreme to the other. We need to moisture, it is very dry here right now.
